Peru doctors call for health minister to quit

Thousands of doctors took to the streets of Lima on Wednesday to demand the resignation of Peru's health minister, who they say doesn't have the experience to lead the nation through the pandemic.Doctors marched to the Ministry of Health in downtown Lima, where some were met with resistance from riot police, and scuffles broke out.HernánCondori, a doctor with experience in Amazon Indigenous territories, was named as health minister amid a surge in cases of the Omicron variant.On February 8, President Pedro Castillo removed the Minister of Health Hernando Cevallos, the minister who had the most support, and replaced him with Condori.Cevallos, was considered, even by the opposition, to be one of the few efficient cabinet ministers.
