Tourism Vs Statistics: Discussion on Tourism Sector Development

Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr Htay Aung attended "Tourism Vs Statistics" workshop on Tuesday.

The Union Minister discussed that it is important to have statistics for future plans for tourism industry including market penetration and arrival of tourists. The Ministry is cooperating not only with the regional associations but also with the international organizations.

He stressed that responsible and sustainable tourism will be developed through the implementations based on systematic statistics.

The officials later made general round of discussions. It was followed by the round-table discussions under four topics– tourism statistics, ASEAN and Greater Mekong tourism statistics, Tourism Satellite Account and tourism data collection and research. Later in the day, the Union Minister received President of the China-based South Asia Future Investment Group Pte. Ltd Mr Zhang Jun, and exchanged views on tourism investment and cooperation between Myanmar and China, tourism development programmes in Myeik Archipelago and promotion cooperation for tourism industry.
