Public Rental Housing: To save rental costs of the people

The Ministry of Construction is implementing the public rental housing projects in the most populous cities such as Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw to reduce living costs and to save rental costs of the people.

The public rental housing project is also being implemented in the Dagon Myothit (South) Township of Yangon Region. Over 3000 apartments are being undertaken in Yangon, according to the official of Department of Urban and Housing Development.

Win Naing, Deputy Director, Department of Urban and Housing Development said “With the aim to save house rental costs, we have carried out three public rental housing projects for retired persons in Yangon. We estimate the rental fee will be about 50,000 kyats. Housing is 5-storey building and an apartment is 600-sq ft. Although the rental cost is affordable, we arrange the apartment having high standard.”

The public housing is a rental housing system and they are not sold for own. All these buildings are owned by the government and they are constructed with the government’s budget according to official.
