Russian authorities reported a record number of coronavirus cases for a third consecutive day on Sunday.  There were over 63,000 new daily cases registered across Russia on Sunday, with 17,528 in Moscow. The surge in cases caused health officials in St. Petersburg to limit elective outpatient care on Friday.

Only half of the country's 146 million people have been fully vaccinated. In Russia, everyone who completed their primary course of vaccination more than six months ago has been eligible for a booster shot since July. Daily new infections in Russia have been steadily climbing since Jan. 10, when just over 15,000 new cases were registered.
