Singapore's prime minister on Monday offered assistance to the U.S. evacuation operation in Afghanistan. Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong offered the use of a military Airbus transport plane to assist with ongoing evacuation of U.S. and Afghan citizens from the region.

Harris' Southeast Asian trip, which brings the VP to Singapore and then later to Vietnam this week, is aimed at broadening cooperation with both nations. Harris visited the Changi Naval Base in Singapore, where she received a briefing from Singapore defence officials on the U.S.-Singapore defence relationship.

She also visited the US Navy ship USS Tulsa  while in Singapore.  She spoke to American sailors on board, thanking them along with US service members and embassy staff who are taking part in the evacuation of Americans and Afghans.
