Rebuild Better Together: 99th Int’l Day of Cooperatives 2021 held in Nay Pyi Taw

The 99th edition of the International Day of Cooperatives 2021 was celebrated at the meeting hall of Office (16), Ministry of Cooperatives and Development of Rural Areas, Nay Pyi Taw at 10 a.m. on Saturday and the Union Minister U Hla Moe delivered remarks at the celebration.

In his remarks, the Union Minister said the cooperative's activities aiming at the interest of the people under the functions of the cooperative were endeavoured to prove the improvement to benefit the people. The cooperative's activities created job opportunities in education, health, agriculture, manufacturing products, retail and wholesale markets, monetary, transportation sectors. The cooperatives are leading the social welfare services and other industrial sectors in the world. The cooperatives in Myanmar should take examples of the good functions from the international cooperatives for more improvements and sustainable achievements. There are over 39,000 cooperatives constituted with 4.2 million members in Myanmar, according to the Union Minister for Cooperatives and Development of Rural Areas.

Deputy Director, Cooperative Department, Thaung Htay said "Through our Department, 5.2 million loans were granted for 240,000 members from 30037 cooperatives conducting industrial services across the country. With those granted loans, they’ve been conducting industrial enterprises and financial services. And the variety of numerous products from those cooperatives is on display also. Our cooperatives have to try much better forward with the collaborative efforts like the motto of this year International Cooperatives Day."

Under the motto of this year International Day of Cooperatives 2021, “Rebuild Better Together” the celebration continued with message reading sessions sent by International Cooperatives Alliance and Central Cooperative Society Ltd were also presented at the celebration.
