COVID-19 Prevention: Vaccination Programme Begins In Regions And States

COVID-19 vaccination programme began in regions and states of Myanmar on Wednesday, January 27. The 1st part of the programme prioritizes medical staff. In Bago Region, over 8,000 doctors and medical staff are set to receive injections.

In Bago, over 900 doctors and medical staff are registered for the vaccination programme which began on the 27th of January and will last till the 29th of January at Bago General Hospital and public health department. This is the first injection and the 2nd injection will take place 28 days later.

Also, in Pyay of Bago Region, at the 500-bed General Hospital, 579 doctors and medical staff received injections for the 1st time. Myanmar received 1.5 million doses of COVISHIELD vaccine as a gift from India for the fight against COVID-19 outbreak. The supply of vaccines by India to Myanmar fulfills the commitment made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2020.

Dr. Ye Aung Tun said “Here, the vaccination programme began at 9 a.m. The programme includes doctors and medical staff as well as those from sports department under the Ministry of Health and Sports.”

Manufactured under license by the Serum Institute of India, the vaccines are firstly being given to health workers and other front-line personnel in Myanmar.

Also, in Hlaingbwe Township of Kayin State, doctors and medical staff received injections at the Public Health Department.

In Longlon Township of Dawei District in Tanintharyi Region, the COVID-19 vaccination programme is for 171 doctors and medical staff as well as for volunteers.

In Thanbyuzayat Township of Mawlamyaing District in Mon State, the programme will last 2 days till the 28th of January for 240 doctors and medical staff as well as for volunteers.

At Magway General Hospital in Magway Region, vaccine injections are over 700 doctors and medical staff on the 27th, 28th and 29th of January.

In Falam Township of Chin State, over 460 doctors and medical staff are registered for the vaccination programme set to be held till the 28th of January.
