Belgium airport prepares for transport of millions of vaccines

The European Union's top official says around two billion doses of potential COVID-19 vaccines have been secured for EU member states, with the first deliveries likely to start before the end of the year.

The European Commission did not give precise numbers on the vaccine production capacity on EU soil, arguing that these figures are confidential as they are part of the commercial contracts sealed with pharmaceutical companies.

The Commission however insists it looks at the vaccine developers' production capacity in the EU before starting commercial negotiations to ensure a quick delivery of the shots and avoid logistics headaches with transportation. Air cargo companies at Brussels Airport said they were prepared to be a major hub for handling vaccine logistics.
