German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas met with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian and British Foreign Minister Dominic Raab on Monday. The meeting served as a platform for a joint exchange of views on the further course of action on the Vienna nuclear agreement with Iran.
There are hopes the incoming US administration might help stabilize the accord. President Donald Trump withdrew the U.S. from the agreement in 2018 and imposed crippling economic sanctions on Iran. President-elect Joe Biden has said he hopes to return the U.S. to the accord, in which Iran agreed to limit its nuclear activities in exchange for the lifting of international sanctions.
Ministers also held one-on-one talks on current bilateral, European, and other international issues. The meeting was held at Villa Borsig, a government guest house in Berlin.
