Ardern hopes APEC leaders will agree a new vision

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said on Friday she hoped APEC would agree a "new vision" to guide the region for the next 20 years. Speaking by video link to a meeting of Asia-Pacific CEOs, Ardern said the focus of the new vision should be the three engines of economic growth, with an emphasis on trade, digital innovation, sustainability and inclusion.

She called for trade to be kept flowing and markets to remain open and urged nations not to repeat the mistakes of history by retreating into protectionism. The CEO Dialogues 2020 event brings together leaders from the Asia Pacific region in a conference being held virtually amid the pandemic.
