Preventive Measures: 14-Day Lockdown In Mingalar Taung Nyunt Township

A 69-year old patient from Mingalar Taung Nyunt Township of Yangon Region who is confirmed with COVID-19 disease at Yangon General Hospital was transferred to Waibargi Specialist Hospital. 

The patient has now been receiving treatment in isolation at the Hospital. The building and street the patient lived in the township has been locked down for 14 days.

Ward Administrator, PhoeMyay Ward, Zaw Win Tun said “The patient was transferred to Waibargi specialist hospital from Yangon General Hospital. The building and street he lived has been locked down for 14 days. We conducted disinfectant spraying in the building, along the street and throughout the ward. We don’t allow food shops and footstalls to make sales during the 14-day lockdown.”     

People living the building are also under home quarantine, a member of Yangon Region Parliament said.

Member of Parliament, Yangon Region Parliament, Hla Htay said “Soon after the news release from the Ministry of Health and Sports, the people living in the building have been put under home quarantine. We’ve been conducting disinfection spraying along the whole street and throughout the ward.”

Currently, the patient and his two family members and driver are receiving medical treatment in isolation at Waibargi specialist hospital.

Resident, PhoeMyay Ward, Myo Thant said “There is public concern about the spread of virus in the ward. The 8-storey building has been locked down – no in … no out. Foodstuff is being sent to them living in that building as they are under home quarantine.”

The patient sought medical treatment of nose-cancer disease in Australia for about a month. He stayed for about 4 days in Singapore on his way back home to Myanmar and arrived in Myanmar on the 14th of March.

As he suffered from some symptoms of fever, coughing and sore throat, he received medical treatment at Yangon General Hospital since the 25th of March. His lab result shows that he has COVID-19.
