
The Ministry of Health and Sports issued a news release on monitoring of COVID-19 on 21st March. It stated that the Ministry of Health and Sports has been conducting monitoring activities on the COVID-19 acute respiratory disease, which has spread throughout China and some countries around the world. There have been 12 new patients for quarantine of the COVID-19 disease in Myanmar between 6 pm of 20th March and 6 pm of 21st March. Although there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Myanmar until 21st March, surveillance activities are actively in progress.
In regard with COVID-19 disease in Myanmar from 31st January to 21st March 2020, there are199 patients under surveillance and 2 suspected cases, altogether 201.
Out of them, 187 patients were found with no COVID-19 disease and 14 are waiting for lab test.
114 have been discharged from the hospital and there were 12 deaths with other diseases although they were no found with coronavirus.
The situations of PUI and suspected cases in the respective hospitals of Regions and States are 85 in Yangon Region, 33 in Mandalay Region, 29 in Shan State and 54 in other States and Regions, altogether, 201.
There are a total of 197 patients who are in hospital quarantine from 31st January to 21st March 2020.
According to the situation report of the World Health Organization (WHO) as of 20th March, the coronavirus COVID-19 is affecting 177 countries around the world and there were 266,073 confirmed with 32,000 new cases and 11,184 deaths globally.
Concerning COVID-19, there are six new countries/territories/areas that are 2 in African Region, 1 in European Region, 1 in Region of the Americas, 1 in South East Asia Region and 1 in the Western Pacific Region.
In China, there were 81,416 confirmed with 116 new cases and 3,261 deaths. In European region, the total death rate of Italy is higher than China with over 4,000 with more than 47,000 confirmed cases.
