Ukrainian Foreign Minister Prystaiko has denied suggestions that U.S. President Donald Trump put pressure on Ukrainian leader Zelenskiy during a phone call in July. The July 25 call with Zelenskiy is at the centre of an escalating battle over a whistleblower's complaint reportedly concerning the U.S. leader's dealings with Ukraine that the administration has refused to give Congress.

In an interview with media outlet Hromadske, Prystaiko said Ukraine was an independent state and also said if someone believes that our president is being put under pressure, they have to prove it. Former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden called for an investigation into reports on Saturday that Trump pressed his Ukrainian counterpart to investigate Biden and his son. Trump has denied doing anything improper and wrote in a series of tweets on Saturday that his conversation with Zelenskiy was "perfectly fine and routine."
