Yangon University of Education reopens: New admissions accepted and old classes resumed

The universities and colleges in Yangon were reopened on 12th May as Covid-19 pandemic rate has declined significantly.

The classes of the Yangon University of Education have been also reopened and new student are enrolling at the university for their first year course and the old students resumed their respective classes.Students who graduated from this University will become high school teachers.

Dr. Kay Thwe Hlaing, Rector, Yangon University of Education said "When Covid broke out in 2019-2020 academic years, there were students who didn’t finish their 2nd Semester at Yangon University of Education. 440 First Year students, 405 Second Year students and 771 Third Year students will be back to their classes for the 2nd semester this year. In 2022-2023 academic year, 380 new students who had passed their matriculation exam will have admission. In Master’s degree classes, there are 51 M.Ed. qualified students and 119 M.Ed.Students for the first semester. All together, there are about 2,000 students attending this year."

B.Ed. and M. Ed. Correspondence classes have been opened continuously. More than 2,600 students have finished the exam recently. The teachers are also preparing the new curriculum for new classes.

Dr. Kay Thwe Hlaing, Rector, Yangon University of Education said "We provide hostels for all students, including students who come from other regions and who live in suburban areas of Yangon, and students who have difficulties in transportation access. The classes start early and finishes late since there are so many subjects being taught. Moreover, the government also provides 30,000 kyats per month each for food expense. We will also give stipend to the students who have difficulties."

The Yangon University of Education has 5 hostels for males and 6 hostels for females. Currently, the University is building a new 2-storey female hostel for the accommodation of the students in convenience. The University will accept student enrollments until 28th May.
