In commemoration of World Sight Day 2025, a ceremony was held on the morning of October 24th at the assembly hall of the Magway Township Collective Hall, attended by Magway Region Chief Minister U Tint Lwin, who delivered a speech.
Firstly, Chief Minister U Tint Lwin stated that the second Thursday of October each year has been designated as World Sight Day and is annually observed by member countries of the World Health Organization. Myanmar has also been celebrating this day since the year 2000.
He emphasized that blindness and visual impairment are public health issues. Understanding this, the Ministry of Health along with other related ministries, regional and state governments, partner organizations, and volunteers have been working together with the public to accelerate eye health care activities. Their goal is to prevent and treat eye diseases that can cause visual impairment and blindness, thereby reducing their incidence.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister and officials viewed a small exhibition displayed at the commemoration ceremony and supported the free cataract surgeries provided to 20 patients each at Magway People’s Hospital and Minbu People’s Hospital, organized by the Public Health and Medical Services Department of Magway Region and provided financial support and eyeglasses to patients suffering from eye ailments.
