3 Myanmar Scouts left Yangon for West Virginia of United States of America on Sunday to attend 24th World Scout Jamboree as representatives of the country.

It will bring together the world’s young people to promote peace and mutual understanding and to develop leadership and life skills. This year will feature the hallmarks of past world jamboree programs, such as the Global Development Village, special sustainability initiatives, and the socialization elements that allow participants to make lifelong friends from around the world.

Scout, Myanmar Marine University (MMU), Hein Naing Soe said “I joined scout since 2012 and I joined this program because I found it on Facebook page and then I tried applying it. I prepared our activities schedule, budgets and our national scout and I trained a lot for this like hiking skills. I think scout is very appropriate for young people because it teaches young people how to behave and how to respect each other.”

Scout, Mandalay Technological University, Hkun Latt Aung said “I’m very proud to become a scout and I got many experiences about social skills and I can cooperate with other because scout is very nice thing and our motto “Leave the world a little better than you found it”. Scouting in Myanmar was first initiated in 1916. It had seen brilliant years of scouting in the 1950s but was suspended in 1964. And then, Scouting in Myanmar was reformed in 2012 and it became the 164th member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in August 2016. Currently, there are more than 24,000 scouts across the country.

Chief Commissioner, Myanmar Scouts Association, Dr. Tin Nyo said “World Organization of the Scout Movement invited and requested us to select the talented youth scouts for the world scout jamboree through ASIA Pacific Scout Region. We also conducted training camps for them. This is the first time ever that Myanmar is attending to the World Scout Jamboree. I think they will have a chance to learn new experiences there.”

24th World Scout Jamboree will be held from 22nd July to 2nd August in West Virginia of USA with over 50,000 scouts aged between 14 and 17 years from 200 nations around the world.
