Myanmar Press Council organized a ceremony to mark the 29th World Press Freedom Day in Yangon on Tuesday.

Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn sent a video message to the ceremony, saying that the theme of World Press Freedom Day 2022: “Journalism under Digital Siege”, highlights the digital era’s impact on freedom of expression, the safety of journalists, access to information and privacy. Spreading groundless information and misinformation by violating the laws posed adverse effects on freedom of expression and press freedom.

The Union Minister stressed the need to follow the media ethics without misusing fundamental human rights to stand as a firm fourth pillar for the public.

He called on the journalists to work together in their respective fields as the skilled journalists for the development of the nation. Vice-Chairman (1) of the Myanmar Press Council U Myo Tun (Maung Sein Naung-Lewe) read out the remark of the council chairman, followed by a round table discussion under the title of “True News to Public”.
