Workshop on Coffee Cultivation and Production: MoALI Union Minister addressed the workshop

The workshop for the development of coffee cultivation and production was held at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, Nay Pyi Taw in the morning on 29th September and Union Minister U Min Naung attended and gave a remark.

In his remark, the Union Minister said that the government is giving all-round support by focusing on the foreign currency income from coffee export and the good potentials of commercial profitability for the entrepreneurs, the farmers, entrepreneurs and associations relating to the coffee cultivation and production should assess the criteria of the market and the conditions that can be faced including commercial law and regulations and make efforts for the long term achievement.

The coffee is being cultivated as a major crop in over 70 countries and traded a total of 9 billion kilograms yearly, the government is making endeavors to promote the coffee cultivation and production as the demand for coffee is rising due to over half of the population of the world is consuming coffee daily.

Myanmar coffee is being exported to Switzerland, Chinese Taipei, China, Thailand, US, UK, Iceland, Republic of Korea, Japan, Germany and UAE and about 1,100 tons of coffee during 2021-2022.

The Union Minister also urged the discussion on the development of Myanmar Coffee sector as well as formulating the opportunities to uplift the implementation with the collaboration of the Ministry, private entrepreneurs, Myanmar coffee association and coffee entrepreneurs from the coffee groups during the workshop.

Next, the Director General of the agriculture department clarified regarding with organizing workshop and the Director of coffee-seasonal crop division reported the status of production growth of coffee cultivation and production.

Next, the patron of Myanmar Coffee Association, responsible persons from Myanmar Coffee groups and FDA discussed the related sectors and the Deputy Minister Dr. Tin Htut and attendees supplement necessary suggestions.
