Nine people died in a coal mine explosion in Indonesia’s West Sumatra province on Friday and rescuers were searching for one miner after rescuing two others.
The blast, caused by noxious gasses including methane, occurred in a mine owned by a private company while the miners were entering the mine pit. There were 12 miners expected working inside the mining site during the explosion. Local rescuers were using blowers and exhaust to remove air from the mine in order to secure the area.
