The World Health Organization's director-general expressed concern for health services on Tuesday as he warned the omicron variant of the coronavirus “continues to sweep the world”.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General (WHO) said "Omicron continues to sweep the world. Last week there were more than 18 million reported cases. The number of deaths remains stable for the moment, but we are concerned about the impact omicron is having on already exhausted health workers and overburdened health systems."

He expressed concerns about those who were still not vaccinated around the globe and called for greater vaccine distribution.
