WHO expresses regret over US withdrawal, seeks reconsideration

The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed regret over US President Donald Trump's announcement of his intent to withdraw his country from the WHO and the Paris Agreement on climate change.

The WHO issued a statement on Tuesday after Trump signed an executive order for the withdrawal. The statement said the WHO and the United States "have saved countless lives and protected Americans and all people from health threats." It also stressed their joint achievements, such as ending smallpox.

The WHO said it hopes the US will reconsider, adding that it looks forward to engaging in constructive dialogue to maintain their partnership.
