
The deep depression that crossed into the interior regions southwest of Dhaka, Bangladesh, has moved north-northeastwards and weakened into a depression, according to the latest meteorological observations.
The system is currently moving across the interior northwest regions of Dhaka and is expected to further weaken into a low-pressure area within the next 24 hours.
Due to the influence of this weather system, widespread rain or thundershowers are expected across several regions and states in Myanmar, including Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay, Bago, Magway, Sagaing, Ayeyarwady, and Taninthayi Regions, as well as Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Chin, Mon, Rakhine, and Shan States. There is a likelihood of regionally and isolated heavy rainfall until June 2. Frequent squalls accompanied by very rough seas are forecast in the deltaic regions and offshore areas along the Rakhine Coast. Wind speeds in squalls may reach 40–45 mph, and wave heights are expected to reach 14–16 feet.
Similarly, occasional squalls with rough to very rough sea conditions are expected in the Gulf of Mottama and off the Mon-Taninthayi Coast. Winds may reach 35–40 mph in squalls, with wave heights of 9–13 feet.
The public is urged to remain alert to potential natural hazards, including heavy rain accompanied by strong winds, thunder, and lightning, risk of lightning strikes and hailstorms, flash floods and landslides in hilly and riverine areas and disruption to inland water transport and domestic flights due to severe weather. Authorities recommend that people in affected regions take necessary precautions and stay updated through official weather bulletins.
