Water which is a fundamental resource inextricably linked to climate change, has often been overlooked in global climate discussions. However, at the ongoing COP29 conference in Baku, water has emerged as a critical issue.

Panel discussions at the Nasimi Hall on Tuesday highlighted the urgency of addressing the global water crisis. Between 2002 and 2021, over 1.4 billion people were affected by droughts. As of 2022, half the world’s population experienced severe water scarcity, with a quarter facing extremely high water stress.

Climate change is projected to exacerbate these challenges, posing significant risks to social stability. Collaboration among governments, businesses, and civil society is key to developing innovative solutions and ensuring sustainable water management practices.
