Authorities urged residents to get vaccinated to prevent RSV infections. Cases of respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV infection have been on the rise over the past few weeks.

The Society of Hospital Pharmacists has called on the government to include the vaccine in the free vaccination program. Its circulation in the community usually begins in late February, and lasts for seven months, while peaking between July and August every year.

The first bivalent vaccine developed by Pfizer against RSV has been approved for use in Hong Kong. The Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Hong Kong said it provides 80 to 90 percent protection for the elderly.
