Viet Nam and Russia on Thursday advanced peaceful nuclear cooperation by signing an intergovernmental agreement to construct the Ninh Thuan 1 nuclear power plant. Backed by Russia’s state corporation Rosatom, this agreement revives Viet Nam's nuclear ambitions to bolster long-term energy security.

The plant will feature two Russian-designed reactors, generating a combined capacity of 2,400 MW. The nuclear partnership runs alongside extended cooperation in other energy sectors, including liquefied natural gas, offshore wind, and traditional oil and gas ventures.
