Venezuelan and Turkish governments Friday signed a series of cooperation agreements on industry, tourism, sports, education, agriculture and fishing.

Turkey is one of the main economic allies of the government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro that faces tight international sanctions.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said the agreements were part of their position to stand with Venezuela as they have been in the past.

Maduro said areas such as technology, food, tourism and petrochemicals were ready for Turkish investment."The time has come for Turkish investments in Venezuela," he said.

Venezuela maintains close relations with China, Russia, and Iran.
