US President-elect Donald Trump indicated Sunday that he planned to "save" TikTok, the popular Chinese video-sharing app, which briefly went dark in the United States after a law banning it on national security grounds came into effect.

TikTok said it is in the process of restoring service to users in the United States. Local media outlets report that the service restoration is a response to comments by Trump. In a post on his Truth Social site, Trump had said he will issue an executive order on Monday to extend the period of time before the law's prohibitions take effect.

The media outlets report TikTok is already available for some users. The US law allows for a 90-day delay of the ban if the White House can show progress toward a viable deal in which TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, sells its US subsidiary to non-Chinese buyers.
