US President Joe Biden on Thursday hosted Philippines President Marcos and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for the first-ever trilateral summit between the three countries and said that the US commitments to the defense of Japan and the Philippines remain ironclad.

The leaders announced new deterrence measures, including on maritime defense, alongside investments in infrastructure projects in the Philippines and collaboration on global humanitarian assistance efforts. The US will welcome Philippine and Japan Coast Guard members onto a US Coast Guard vessel during a patrol mission in the Indo-Pacific this year to further train and synchronize their work.
