US climate envoy Kerry meets Pope Francis

John Kerry, one of the leading architects of the Paris climate agreement and current U.S. climate envoy for national security was received by Pope Francis at the Vatican on Saturday.

The pope and Kerry exchanged gifts, with Kerry giving the pope the books "The Overstory" by Richard Powers and "Everyday is extra" by Kerry himself, while the Pontiff gave the US envoy a miniature sculpture and some of his books, with "Laudato Sii" among them.

After the meeting, the pope, Kerry and his delegation met the Vatican delegation for climate talks.

Kerry is the first member of the US National Security Council to focus exclusively on climate change.
