The US Central Command announced on Tuesday that it began striking Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets in Iran. In a social media post, CENTCOM said the strikes came in response to attempted attacks by the IRGC on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz and on US service members.

President Donald Trump described the strikes on social media on Tuesday as "large and powerful," calling Iran a "failed" nation and pledging to hit it "at a much harder and higher level" if it retaliates. The IRGC later announced that it has started what it calls a "regretful response to the aggressors." It also claimed that it shot down a US drone with its "new aerospace defense system."
