In Yangon Region, Department of Urban and Housing Development under the Ministry of Construction is building low-cost housings such as Kyan Sit Min in Hlaingthaya Township, Shwe Lin Pan, Kanaung, Yoma, Aung Myint Mo, Thilawa, and Yuzana housings with the intention of making people home owners. The housings are being sold with Bank Loan System in cooperation with Construction, Housing & Infrastructure Development (CHID) Bank.

As the low-cost apartments at the Kyan Sit Min Housing are receiving more demands, 7 more low-cost units are being built and construction process has now been about 40 percent completed.

Deputy Director, Department of Urban and Housing Development, Win Naing said “Since Kyan Sit Min Housing are receiving more demands, we need to build more. Currently, we are building 7 5-storey more units which will have 280 rooms. We have a plan to build more 14 units with 8 and 12 rooms on a floor. This Housing already had 70 units with 2,240 rooms. Upon completion of the projects, the Housing will have over 4,000 rooms.”

Although the low-cost housing is made to be affordable for the people, the included facilities are better than that of a low-cost housing is supposed to have.

Deputy Director, Department of Urban and Housing Development, Win Naing said “Although it is a low-cost housing, the buildings include parking lots too. It also has markets, food stalls, hawker centers and even some shop buildings. We’re also planning to include ‘City Mart’. There are also playgrounds, Futsal courts and a community centre. Also, the housing has an evacuation area.”

Yangon City requires accommodation for local residents especially apartments on a yearly basis as growing number of people migrate from rural to urban area seeking out works.
