Urban & Housing Development: 10,000 Units Public Rental Housing in South Dagon Tsp

For urban and housing development, public rental housing projects are being implemented in Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay while efforts are being made in carrying out the affordable housings as well. 

Deputy Director, Dept. of Urban and Housing Development, Khin Zaw said "Our department’s objective is to develop urban and accommodate convenient housings for the people. In the past, we’ve constructed many housings in Yangon and have implemented public rental housing projects. After 1988, we expand the new urban cities for those in down town areas who have difficulty for living in four Dagon Myothit townships, Hlaingthaya and ShwePyitha. But before 1988, the cities of Thuwanna, South Okalapa and North Okalapa were developed. Then we create lands for them along with emerging economic zones for their job opportunities. Later, we implemented affordable housings in the areas of Shwe Pyitha, Hlaing Thaya, Dagon Seikkan, Dagon (South) and Thanlyin for those difficult to live. "

At present, the Department of Urban and Housing Development under the Ministry of Construction is putting efforts into placing the units through the implementation of staff rental housings, as well as implementing the affordable and public rental housing projects.  

Deputy Director, Dept. of Urban and Housing Development, Khin Zaw said "Our department is fulfilling the 10,000 units public rental housing project for the people including staff. We are now constructing this housing dividing into three parts; Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay. We construct 272 buildings in Dagon (South) for Yangon region and now starting with 194 buildings for the first phase. After completion, 3000 units are estimated to get and then we’ll set the policies prior for the people to live conveniently. "

Under the COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan, 10,000 units public rental housing project is being developed 272 buildings on 171 acres in Dagon Myothit (South) township, Yangon Region, under Phase I, including 194 buildings and 3,104 apartments, it’s learnt.
