Union Minister for Electricity and Energy, U Ko Ko Lwin, accompanied by responsible officials, inspected the water inflow and power generation status at the Upper Paunglaung Hydropower Plant in the morning on June 29.

The plant is built on the Paunglaung River, approximately 26 miles east of Pyinmana in the Nay Pyi Taw Council Area. First, upon arrival at the Upper Paunglaung Hydropower Plant, the Union Minister inspected the operations of the generators repaired following damage caused by severe flooding and heavy torrential rains triggered by Typhoon Yagi and are now back to generating electricity.

He inspected the synchronization and control of the power grid within the Control Room, the rotation of the generator turbines, the current water inflow into the reservoir, the accumulation of silt from the Paunglaungnge Creek into the reservoir, and the structural integrity and maintenance of the dam. Subsequently, at the plant's briefing hall, the Director General of the Department of Hydropower Implementation presented a report detailing the completed repairs of damages sustained across the plant project site due to Typhoon Yagi's floods and other necessary preparations.

Following this, the Managing Director of the Electric Power Generation Enterprise presented a comparative analysis of water inflow into the reservoir between this year and previous years, along with updates on maintaining a balanced power grid through a mix of thermal and hydropower generation. In response to the presentations, the Union Minister gave instructions to systematically manage water resources in alignment with practical conditions to ensure a sufficient power supply for the public during the upcoming summer and to strategically plan power generation in advance, etc.

Additionally, he emphasized analyzing potential El Niño scenarios to implement required preparatory measures. Following the inspection, the Union Minister provided food provisions and words of encouragement to the power plant staff, construction project personnel, and security forces, and fulfilled the needs presented by the staff, it’s reported.
