

Historic buildings in the Old City section of the Yemeni capital Sanaa, a UNESCO heritage site, have collapsed after heavy rainfall which resulted in floods.
Footage showed the damage done to the older buildings, with holes in the ceilings, and entire sections of homes destroyed. The residents of the city say the heavy rain, which started early August, poses a threat to their lives. Old Sanaa is an Islamic city of great historical importance. In the 7th and 8th centuries the city became a major centre for Islam and has been inhabited for over 2,500 years. The city is famous for its architectural character, where its houses are made of red brick and decorated with white plaster. The city is placed in the UNESCO's World Heritage List since 1986.War in Yemen had already impacted the old city leading the UNESCO's World Heritage Committee to add it the List of World Heritage in Danger.
