UN says Gaza has most child amputees per capita globally

The United Nations said Monday that Gaza now has the highest rate of child amputees per capita in the world, following over a year of ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. 

. Amina J. Mohammed, UN Deputy Secretary-General said "Meanwhile, the health system has collapsed and Gaza now has the highest number of children amputees per capita anywhere in the world -- many losing limbs and undergoing surgeries without even anesthesia."

This statement from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was read out by Mohammed at a Cairo conference aimed at accelerating humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. According to recent reports, over 1,000 children have suffered amputations in Gaza since the conflict began.
