UK writer Samantha Harvey wins 2024 Booker with space novel

Samantha Harvey has won the 2024 Booker Prize for her science fiction novel Orbital on Tuesday. The novel follows six astronauts as they orbit the Earth for one day of their nine-month space mission. Harvey previously made the longlist for the Booker Prize in 2009 with her debut novel "The Wilderness".

 A record five women were in the running for the $64,500 prize which was announced at a glitzy ceremony in London. The Booker Prize is considered the most prestigious literary award for English fiction published in the UK and Ireland.
