The Union Election Commission issued the Notification No. 56/2025 regarding political parties' membership and office requirements on August 20, 2025. According to the notification, Political parties must meet the minimum membership requirements within the timeframe specified by the Commission, which is at least 90 days before the election date.
A party organizing nationwide must have at least 50,000 members. A party organizing within a single region or state must have at least 1,000 members. Political parties must open the required number of offices within the timeframe specified by the Commission, which is at least 90 days before the election date.
For a party organizing nationwide, it must have party offices in at least one-third of all townships across the Union. For a party organizing within a single region or State, it must have party offices in at least five townships within that region or state.
Failure to meet these requirements by the specified deadline will result in action being taken in accordance with Section 12 of the Political Parties Registration Law. In accordance with Section 5, subsections (e) and (g) of the Political Parties Registration Law, the final date for political parties to submit documentation to the Commission proving they have met the required number of members and party offices is Sunday, September 7, 2025.
Likewise, the Union Election Commission released Announcements No. 56 and 57/2025 and Notification No. 57/2025. In Announcement No. 56/2025, the UEC designated 102 townships for Phase 1 of the multi-party democracy general election, scheduled for December 28, 2025, by region and state.
In Announcement No. 57/2025, the UEC announced the dates for submitting candidate lists for the various Hluttaw constituencies as of September 8, 2025, the last day to withdraw a submitted candidate list as of September 12, 2025, from September 13 to 17, 2025 is designated as the period for a political party competing in a Proportional Representation (PR) constituency to replace a candidate if their name has been withdrawn, September 18 to October 4, 2025 is specified as the period for scrutinizing candidate lists The notification and announcements were signed by UEC Chairman U Than Soe.
