The United Arab Emirates says it destroyed a ballistic missile launch site in al-Jawf province, Yemen, after a missile targeting the UAE was reportedly shot down early Monday. The country's defence ministry released videos it said showed the targeted attack on the Yemeni site.
The UAE intercepted a ballistic missile fired by Yemen's Houthi rebels as the Israeli president visited the country, authorities said, the third-such attack in recent weeks. The missile fire further escalates tensions across the Persian Gulf, which previously had seen a series of assaults near - but never indisputably on - Emirati soil. It comes during Yemen’s yearslong war and the collapse of Iran’s nuclear deal with world powers.
The attack did not result in any losses, as the remnants of the ballistic missile fell outside the populated areas.. The country's civilian air traffic control agency said there was no immediate effect on air travel in the UAE, home to the long-haul carriers Emirates and Etihad.
