Turkmenistan celebrates Defender of the Fatherland Day

On January 27, Turkmenistan observes Defender of the Fatherland Day, a significant national holiday established in 2009 by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty.

The occasion commemorates the founding of the Ministry of Defense and the establishment of the Armed Forces of independent Turkmenistan in 1992. As part of the day's observances, representatives from military and law enforcement agencies gathered at the Memorial Complex "People’s Memory," where the Eternal Flame burns in honor of those who have served the nation.

The ceremony commenced with the performance of the national anthem by a military orchestra, before wreaths were laid to pay tribute to the country's defenders.
