Steel manufacturers in the United States saw their share prices rise Monday after US President Donald Trump said he would impose tariffs on steel and aluminium imports from Argentina and Brazil. Trump tweeted that Brazil and Argentina had been presiding over a "massive" devaluation of their currencies, which was bad for American farmers.

Trump also called on America’s central bank to take action to prevent other countries from devaluing their currencies. Both South American nations were among a group of US allies that Trump had exempted from steel and aluminium tariffs in March 2018.
