U.S. President Donald Trump posthumously honored a hero of the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center on Thursday. Trump presented the Presidential Citizens Medal to Susan Rescorla, the widow of Rick Rescorla. Trump praised Rick for heroic actions on the day of the attacks as he ushered people out of the South Tower, refusing to leave until everyone was out. The South Tower collapsed before Rick could escape.

Trump recounted his story and said he had saved some 2,700 lives that day. The Presidential Citizens Medal was established by Executive Order 11494 on November 13, 1969, for the purpose of recognizing citizens of the United States of America who have performed excellent deeds of service for their country or their fellow citizens, according to a White House statement.
