










The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism is putting constant efforts of actively participating in the international and regional collaborations for the development of tourism industry and market promotion and the international tourism expos for boosting country’s image and tourists destinations. Accordingly, the Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr. Htay Aung attended the 16th International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City held from 8th to 10th September, 2022. A high level travel forum under the topic of “Growth Forward Together” attached to the travel expo was organized and attended by the Union Minister and Myanmar Ambassador to Viet Nam, officials from the ministry and representatives from Myanmar Tourism Federation and Myanmar Tourism Promotion Board.
In the afternoon on 7th September, the Union Minister attended the event of “Promoting and Developing Business-Recreation tourism prospects in Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam during COVID-19 pandemic”.
Next, the union minister observed the developing housing project to be facilitated the development of business-recreation tourism industry in Vietnam and queried on what he wanted to know on the clarifications of the project in-charges.
Next, the union minister attended the “Vietnam Night” dinner hosted by Vietnam at GEM Center of Ho Chi Minh City for the tourism industry ministers, high ranking officers and local and international destinations purchasers.
At the event, the Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Mr. Phan Mai gave a welcoming remark for the Lao, Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam tourism industry ministers, high ranking officers and local and international destinations purchasers and the participants of the dinner were entertained with the history of emerging Vietnam and the traditional cultural dances.
In the morning on 8th September, the union minister attended the opening ceremony of 16th International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City held at Convention Center and observed the Saigon exhibition hall and local and international travel exhibition booths. Next, the high level forum of “Seeking solution for rehabilitation of international tourism industry and sustainable development” was held.
At the forum, the tourism industry ministers, high level officials and private representatives shared the efforts as per sector regarding with the rehabilitee of tourism sector during the COVID-19 pandemic and requirements to address Meeting, Incentive, Convention, Exhibition (MICE). The Union Minister Dr. Htay Aung took part in the discussion on the matters of the situations implemented for the revitalization and resilience of Myanmar tourism industry during and post-COVID-19, points to be addressed with the special attention for the sustainable development, future plans to be implemented in Myanmar.
Then, the union minister viewed the travel exhibition booths displayed representing Myanmar by Myanmar Tourism Promotion Board and the status of viewers looking at Myanmar exhibition booths.
The union minister met with the Cambodia delegation led by the minister for tourism Mr. Thong Khon at Renaissance Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City in the afternoon on September 8.
At the meeting, the union minister discussed the situation of reopening tourism industry and tourists arrival, visa exemption for Cambodian citizens as of 1st September, MoU signed between Cambodia and Myanmar for the cooperation of tourism industry, promotion of relation among the people of the two countries, to run direct flights, coordination between the two countries to promote the tourism industry.
In addition, exchange of familiarization trip (FAM Trip) between Cambodia and Myanmar, developing two countries tourism promotion logo and to display one destination of two countries cooperated between Myanmar and Cambodia at ITB Berlin travel Expo to be held in Germany in March, 2023 were openly discussed.
In the evening, the union minister and Myanmar delegation members attended “Cambodia Night” event held at Rex Hotel hosted for the representatives from Cambodia participated in the travel expo.
During the 16th International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City and High Level Forum was attended by ministers, high ranking officials from 25 countries and participated by a total of 260 exhibition booths and about 1500 representatives.
