Transnational Crime : Myanmar delegation attends 19th ASEAN meeting in Malaysia

A delegation led by Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Aung Kyaw Kyaw attended the 19th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) and related meetings held in Melaka of Malaysia, from September 8 to 12.

The opening ceremony took place on September 9 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, attended by ASEAN ministers, senior officials, and representatives from Timor-Leste. Key speakers included the ASEAN Secretary-General, Malaysian Home Minister, and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

From September 9 to 11, various sessions were held, including the 19th AMMTC main meeting, the AMMTC+3 meeting with China, Japan, and South Korea, and separate meetings with dialogue partner countries China, Japan, South Korea.

The meetings focused on cooperation to combat transnational crimes such as human trafficking, cybercrime, money laundering, and terrorism. ASEAN adopted the ASEAN Plan on Transnational Crime (2026–2035), Anti-Money Laundering Framework and ASEAN Declarations on border management, human trafficking, and cybercrime. It is learnt that the 20th AMMTC will be hosted by the Philippines in Cebu in July 2026.
