Trade and Investments: Myanmar to send Commercial Attaches to foreign countries

The Ministry of Commerceis going to assign Commercial Attache to foreign countries, aiming to attract more investors and to increase trade volume of Myanmar.

This is the 4th batch of sending the Commercial Attaches who will be replacedwith the existing attaches by early next year. Before going to their assigned duty stations, the nominated Commercial Attaches have been provided with the necessary information that could help in serving their duties.

Director, Trade Promotion Department, Than Myint Oo, said " We are going to assign 16 Commercial Attaches in 12 different countries. We will assign 4 Commercial Attaches in China while two of them in India. Their main duty is to try for promoting trade volume of the country and inviting more investments. Since the Commercial Attaches are the front-line players for economic development of the nation, they are being provided with systematic training and guidance for serving their duties successfully."

On Thursday, the newly nominated Commercial Attaches visited Thilawa Special Economic Zone in Yangon Region where the SEZ Management Committee briefed them about the history of Thilawa SEZ, the services and infrastructure facilities for the convenience of international investors.

Nominated Commercial Attache, Myanmar Consul-General Office, Kolkata, India, Kaung Tun Aung, said " During our visit to Thilawa SEZ, we have come to know the information needed for us. So, we can share our knowledge to the potential investors from other countries. It could help increase more foreign investments for our country."

The commercial attaches play a vital role in promoting trade with foreign countries. They will link foreign traders and Myanmar businesses to be involved in commercial activities and trading, and will also serve as a focal contact point where they will expand the trading network of both exporters and importersthrough the trade fairs and forums.

Nominated Commercial Attache, Myanmar Embassy in Russia, Khun Myo Thu, said "At present, our country needs fuel despite there are import by the Government. So, I’ll try to invite investors from Russia to make investments in energy sector so as for our people to buy fuel with reasonable price. And we also have many products that can export to Russia, especially the agriculture produces."

Nominated Commercial Attache, Myanmar Embassy, Beijing, Thin Thin Aung, said "Since Myanmar is an agro-based country, I would like to focus on promotion of exporting agriculture products in line with the rules and regulations of the people's Republic of China. Moreover, I would like to invite investors that could help in producing value-added products in agriculture sector."

The newly-appointed Commercial Attaches will be sent to Thailand, Viet Nam, the Philippines, the United States, China, Japan, Singapore, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, India, Korea and Russia.
