Tourism Industry: Arrival Of Local And Foreign Visitors In Bagan Increasing

The visiting Bagan cultural heritage zone in Nyaung-U district of Mandalay Region is getting increase back, according to the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (Bagan Branch).

Since COVID-19 outbreaks, the arrival of local and foreign visitors paying visit to Bagan cultural heritage zone has been declined, but after easing COVID-19 restrictions, the amount of visitor arrival have increased, it had a total of 92,696 local and foreign visitors as of May 2020.

When COVID-19 cases become decline, the visitors’ arrival backs to almost normal, and more crowded on the weekends and public holidays. Likewise, there are also foreign visitors due to the permission to operate international airlines.

In Bagan Nyaung-U area, there are 112 hotels and 42 guest houses operating with the business license of Mandalay Regional Tourism Executive Committee (MRTEC), and currently, there are 52 hotels and 11 guest houses are back in operation amongst 82 hotels and 25 guest houses that have been allowed to reopen in line with the COVID-19 rules.

The permission to resume the operation of hotels started since March 2021, and now local and foreign visitors continuously arriving while COVID-19 cases are declining.

Upon making efforts for the safety and convenient travel as a priority task, for more arrivals and visits of local and foreign visitors, tour destinations are needed to be attractive, and at the same time, it is needed to speed up the tourism businesses.
