









Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn, together with Kayah State Chief Minister U Zaw Myo Tin, attended the Discussion on Building a Progressive and Strong Community and the entertainment programs by artists aimed at providing recreation and encouragement to the public in Loikaw, Kayah State, and also observed ongoing activities for the reconstruction and development of Loikaw on August 25.
In the morning, the Union Minister, the State Chief Minister, responsible officials, and performing artists attended and made offerings of alms, oil, and requisites to the Sangha from the Buddhist monasteries of Loikaw at the Abbot Training Center in Loikaw.
Next, they attended the Discussion on Building a Progressive and Strong Community held at the Computer University (Loikaw). Teachers, students from the Technological University, Computer University, Education Degree College, Nursing and Midwifery Training School, and Government Technical High School in Loikaw also joined the event.
At the discussion, a student from the Education Degree College performed the song “Outstanding and Good Person”. Students from the same college also presented a traditional Kayah dance performance depicting natural beauty. In addition, video clips titled “Overcoming Earthquake Challenges for a Better Future” and “Let’s Support Education for National Development” were screened.
After the performances, the Union Minister delivered a speech. He then presented cash awards to the performing groups and donated educational books and journals for Higher Education schools in Kayah State, as well as a complete set of MRTV DTH satellite equipment and an MRTV T-2 set-top box to Computer University (Loikaw). Following that, the Union Minister, officials, and multi film academy awards winner actor Yan Aung drew lucky lots to award MRTV DTH satellite equipment sets and MRTV T-2 set-top boxes to participants of the discussion.
Later, four students from higher education institutions in Kayah State performed an English language proficiency demonstration, after which they were awarded recognition prizes. Students from the Education Degree College then presented a performance of the song “Everlasting Beauties of the Union.”
Afterwards, the Union Minister and his delegation visited the newly constructed Thiri Mingalar Market in Loikaw. Officials explained that the original market, built in 1991 with timber, zinc roofing, plywood, and concrete, had been destroyed by fire in 2023 due to terrorist attacks.
In July 2024, construction of a new two-story Thiri Mingalar Market began with a foundation-laying ceremony, and its first phase was opened in April this year. At present, second-phase works are ongoing. The Union Minister and his team then toured the market, cordially greeting vendors and shoppers. Similarly, the accompanying artists warmly greeted the audience and also took commemorative photos with the public.
