Recent torrential rains have caused the banks of the River Don to split open onto roadways, affecting traffic in Sheffield and Rotherham on Thursday night.

Cars became stranded in floodwater with congestion resulting on many routes in South Yorkshire, which is believed to be one of the worst affected areas. Hannah Crossley, who was stuck inside the shopping mall when she filmed the creeping river, told reporters that it looked to be just centimeters away from bursting over the banks. South Yorkshire Police have advised only essential travel in the area.
