In producing agricultural products for commercial exports, it needs to meet set standards of respective countries.
Only when the quality of exported crops meets the set standards, harmful substances are restricted and the pest control requirements are followed, the benefits of the bilateral agreement will be enjoyed upon exporting bananas to China.
It was said by Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Tin Htut Oo in meeting with banana entrepreneurs in Waingmaw Township of Kachin State on Monday.
Union Minister Tin Htut Oo, Kachin State Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan, State Cabinet Ministers and departmental officials inspected the tissue banana plantations and harvesting and packaging of the bananas cultivated by Longyang Company located in San Khar village of Waing Maw Township.
It is learnt that local tissue banana businessmen are exporting bananas to China legally since an agreement has been signed between the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation and the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC).
Within (2020-2021) Fiscal year, 800,000 tons of bananas were exported and 328 million USD earned from the export. However, tissue bananas are mainly cultivated in Kachin State which is located near the China Trade Road.
Banana farmers need to follow the cultivation procedures and to apply the Good Agricultural Practices upon using pesticides.
The banana plantations and packaging factories are required to register at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation so that they can export to GACC before the export season.
