Thousands caught in floods near Jakarta

Thousands of homes and buildings in West Java were flooded on Wednesday that had crippled much of Indonesia's capital. Footage showed soldiers and rescuers in rubber boats working to evacuate children and the elderly from the Graha Indah housing complex in Bekasi. However, many residents chose to remain in their houses while relying on food and assistance from the joint rescue team. The housing complex was often hit by flooding during the rainy season, let down by its poor drainage system.
