Third Meeting of MRJCTC: Co-Chairs from Myanmar and Russia delivered address

The third meeting of Myanmar-Russia Joint Counter-Terrorism Committee was held at the Jasmine Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on December 9. Attending the meeting were Lt-Gen Than Htike from the Office of the Commander in Chief (Army) and Committee members senior military officers from Myanmar Armed Forces, and from the Russian Federation, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Ground Forces for Peacekeeping, Colonel General Aleksandr Anatolyevich Matovnikov, and Committee members senior officers from the Russian Armed Forces.

First, Joint Co-Chair of the Third Myanmar-Russia Joint Counter-Terrorism Committee, Lt-Gen Than Htike, warmly welcomed the Russian Armed Forces delegation. In his opening remarks, he stated that by alternately hosting the Joint Counter-Terrorism Committee meetings, the flow of information in the counter-terrorism sector between the two armed forces can be accelerated, technical cooperation can be enhanced, joint efforts in human resource development and training exercises can be undertaken, and it will be mutually beneficial in conducting counter-terrorism operational processes amid evolving forms of terrorism.

Subsequently, the Joint Co-Chair of the Third Myanmar-Russia Joint Counter-Terrorism Committee, Colonel General Aleksandr Anatolyevich Matovnikov, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Ground Forces for Peacekeeping, delivered his opening remarks in return.

He addressed the potential for enhancing regional stability between Russia and Myanmar and the possibilities for cooperation between the two armed forces in counter-terrorism operations. The delegation members from both countries then presented and discussed methods for rapid response in the field of counter-terrorism according to set agenda topics. The Joint Committee Co-Chairs from both countries reviewed the presentations and held frank and open exchanges of views, it’s reported.
